Choose Product Type2. Choose Product. With netbooks becoming very popular over the past year it's no surprise that the lack of a disc drive on them has come up a time or two. Our friends over at Plextor have been known for their amazing disc drives for some time, foreseeing the need for portable drives early this year they released the PXU. The PXU is available in both a PC and mac version with appropriate software and coloring to match each. Using a slim laptop drive Plextor hopes to of brought a solution for thoughts who are looking for easy to use and portable disc drives.

Today I have the opportunity to check it out myself. Product Name: PXU. Review Sample Provided by: Plextor. Pictures by: Wes. Supporting 8X write speeds, the PXU is the perfect addition to any laptop. Encasing an internal battery solution, the PXU requires only a single USB connection for power, data transfers, and disc burning. No longer are you struggling with multiple cables, adapters, or outlets.

Power Software for all your digital media needs. Take control of several powerful features of Plextor drives. Concurrently, it reveals extensive information about the inserted disc— like format, sessions and tracks, manufacturer, and CD TEXT. Now, before you roll your eyes and sigh about having to lug more cables around that would defeat the idea of portability that made your netbook or ultra slim MacBook Air attractive in the first place, let me point out that the Plextor PXU requires only one USB cable, which is supplied.

The DVD burner is small, slim, light weight, whisper quiet, and it works like a charm. The PC version is basic black. Either looks good. I could watch movies with nary a hiccup, glitch, or jitter. What's more telling is that I plugged the PXU into the HP Mini Note running the latest build of Windows 7 and, after Windows found, downloaded, and installed the appropriate drivers, it worked too. Of course, Windows had to tell me everything it was doing, but in Windows 7 the information windows are a lot smaller and easier to ignore.

That speaks well of Windows 7, but it also speaks volumes for the PXU. It is a true plug-n-play DVD burner. XP required some coercing, but after finding, and installing PowerDVD, which took about three minutes, everything worked fine.

The MacBooks, like my iMac, had no problems. It just worked. This driver update utility makes sure that you are getting the correct drivers for your PXU and operating system version, preventing you from installing the wrong drivers. The biggest benefit of using DriverDoc is having access to more than 2,, drivers updated daily ensuring that all of your PC's drivers remain up-to-date, not just your External DVD Writer.

Your operating system requires a way to communicate clearly with your PXU, and this is essentially the role that these tiny software applications play. The risk of installing the incorrect External DVD Writer device drivers include slower overall performance, feature incompatibilities, and PC instability.

Most people fear that they will cause a computer crash or error if they update PXU device drivers.
