How to install fs2004 scenery in fsx

Option 2 - A better but more time consuming way would be to create individual folders for specific areas eg by region Europe or country UK for example , either within the default Addon folder or better still outside of FSX in its own folder system. PROs: Easier to manage, easier to resolver scenery related issues, being outside of the FSX means no data lost in the event of the a requirement to delete and reinstall FSX.

CONs: takes time to initially set up Whichever ever way to choose to go on this it is better to go slowly as simply bulk installing can cause problems and makes it harder to resolve issue encountered. Whilst aimed at the installation of MAIW scenery packages it does offer good info For info, all of my addon scenery, with the exception of payware which I let the installer handle, is stored outside of the FSX and I have had no problems. Although my folder structure is a bit more complex than suggested at option b once set up it is easy to control.

Its free and is a great utility - I have been using it for a number of years now and no longer use the FSX scenery settings area to add scenery any scenery that I have downloaded and it automatically recognises any payware installs. The link goes to the latest version - make sure that you click the correct download button, its the one located to the right of the star and downloads this week entries.

There is a version available on this site but its several versions out of date but is still usable. Thank you very much longbreak Very useful information and guidance which I will go about exploring to see if I am successfull without jeopardizing the existing and working structures. Really appreciate such useful orientation. This would mean that the files I have which worked in FS9 are not suitable for FSX, and also that this is well beyond my capabilities. Will try to find professional help for this project of mine.

Must thank you again for the willingness in trying to help. Must again appreciate and thank the wilingness to help always found with the members of this forum and the extreme resource of knowledge and experience which is availabe here. Best of luck to all. I have used many Fs9 scenery packages in FSX with very few problems.

The ones that have caused problems have either incompatible scenery objects or have author induced errors such as overlapping taxi links or un-connected parking. All BGL files must be located in the scenery's scenery folder and all textures. Now start your Flight Simulator Select Settings and Scenery Library from the main menu. In the Scenery Library menu, press Add Area.

Browse to the main directory where you unzipped the scenery files. Amend the scenery area title if needed. Keep setting Use this scenery directly and press OK. Open your C;Drive, or, wherever you've installed your FSX core game, navigate through to where all the extra folders are and open the folder marked Addon Scenery, minimise the page, go into your My Documents section, CUT and paste your newly created folder marked with your scenery name, i.

Mauritius, go back to the Addon Scenery folder and paste the newly created folder into it and then exit it completely and also exit your My Documents area. Now, you can either reboot your computer and then do a defrag of your C;Drive so that all the fractured files get compacted, this is especially so if you add several areas at the same time which add up to a large volume.

If you don't want to do that then go to the next few stages which I will show you with screenshots.

Click on Add Area - and this pop up box will appear, click on the section called Addon scenery and click on the folder that you've created, i. Mauritius, this will then appear at the bottom of the pop up box in the section called Directory, click on OK and the pop up box should then disappear and your new folder should be to the top of all the scenery addons, which should be Number 1, click OK again and the database will rebuild itself, job done, exit settings.

Now, sometimes the creator will put a read me document into his zip folder with the texture settings resolutions, etc, which you will need to amend before you go into the scenery add-on, so click on scenery and adjust the settings accordingly.

If you go back to your My Documents section, you can either delete all of the folders, or, you can archive the zip folder with all of the folders inside for safekeeping, if this is a very large add-on, over mb, then you can't use a disc, you'll have to get a USB stick. Come back on here if you get stuck with anything, if not, happy flying Transport Steve. You mean you can do it without converting anything?

I though FS stuff are incompatible even if you put then in the right folders. Originally Posted by jomni. David "Opa" Marshall. Originally Posted by opaplano. I have only limited experience trying to use FS sceneries in FSX - but it seems it is very much a trial and error process.
