Hi Bruce, thank you very much for your help. I have run the GSmartControl tool but unfortunately I can't progress beyond the third step. The only drive shown C: shows as an "unknown model". When I double click on the drive, it says "no additional information is available for this drive" and if I click "show output", the following pops up: smartctl 6.

I tried to copy and paste this file from another computer running all the same programs but I can not change it from a read only file. If you need a DLL file in spite of the above for the sake of restoring a system, then download it from a reliable source, possibly from the manufacturer's site.
